Oklahoma House Bill 2826
Time line for this would be: Summer of 2012 I met with Lt. Gov. Lamb about what more could be done to help Oklahoman's living with Traumatic Brain Injury and what if anything the state was doing I began researching legislation after that Spring of 2013 I returned to school at Oklahoma State University and got involved in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature where I learned how to write legislation Fall of 2013 I drafted legislation to create a TBI Trust Fund and sent to various state legislators. I heard back from Rep. (now Sen.) Smalley and Sen. Mazzei. Both really liked it and wanted to see it go before the state legislature. I explained why I wanted it to go before OIL first then the state legislature and both were supportive of my idea. Spring of 2014 Michael Merit took it to OIL but a different version BUT the difference was his legislation had funding on it. Fall of 2014 I sent the legislation to Rep. Bennett to see if he would carry it. He didn't that session. Fall of 2015 I sent the original legislation I wrote along with the legislation Merit took and emailed it to Rep. Denney. Before the end of the year I heard back from her office that she was going to carry the bill. January (forgot the day) the bill became HB2826
